The audio industry supply chain is a complete value chain network that covers raw material procurement, core component production, finished product manufacturing, distribution and delivery to end services. Its efficient operation directly determines product cost, quality, and delivery time. In the upstream supply chain, core components such as drive units and DAC chips rely on imports, with a localization rate of less than 40%, which makes the industry more sensitive to fluctuations in the international supply chain. In terms of raw materials, the prices of key metal materials such as copper and aluminum have increased by 18% annually. Coupled with the impact of global supply chain fluctuations, the industry's production costs have increased by an average of 15% in recent years, severely squeezing the profit margins of enterprises. ​
The midstream manufacturing process exhibits polarized characteristics: top enterprises often adopt self built factory models to enhance quality control capabilities and production efficiency; Small and medium-sized enterprises rely on the advantages of industrial clusters and adopt ODM/OEM outsourcing models to reduce production costs. In terms of production processes, the improvement of environmental protection requirements has promoted technological transformation in the industry. The EU RoHS directive restricts the use of hazardous substances, and China's "dual carbon" goals have forced enterprises to improve energy efficiency. This has made the use of halogen-free flame retardants and low-power production equipment a trend in the industry. But for small and medium-sized enterprises, the initial investment in environmental protection renovation is relatively large, which further exacerbates the survival pressure. ​
In the downstream distribution process, logistics system and after-sales service are key competitive advantages. The timeliness and cost control of cross-border logistics directly affect the market competitiveness of exported products, especially in the context of frequent tariff policy adjustments. Enterprises need to flexibly adjust their logistics routes and warehouse layouts. In terms of after-sales service, the coverage of maintenance outlets and the implementation of quality assurance policies directly affect customer stickiness. High end products often require more professional debugging and maintenance services, which puts higher demands on the construction of service networks for enterprises. ​
The current audio industry supply chain is facing multiple core challenges. Firstly, the problem of chip shortage continues to escalate. The global chip supply shortage caused by the 2020 pandemic has not fully eased, and the supply stability of audio chips, AI chips, and other components required for audio equipment is insufficient, resulting in some companies' long-term capacity utilization rates below 70%. Secondly, geopolitical risks have intensified, and tariff barriers and trade frictions have increased the uncertainty of cross-border supply chains. Some companies have to adjust their production layout to avoid risks, which further drives up operating costs. ​
Environmental compliance pressure has become a new challenge facing the supply chain. The EU's "New Battery Law" requires audio batteries to provide a carbon footprint digital passport, declare their carbon footprint value by 2026, and meet clear performance levels (such as recycled material ratios and carbon emission thresholds) by 2028; China's "dual carbon" policy has also put forward strict requirements for energy consumption and carbon emissions in the production process. Enterprises need to invest additional costs to optimize production processes, adopt environmentally friendly materials such as recycled plastics and biobased materials, and meet third-party verification and certification requirements, which puts higher demands on the green transformation of the supply chain. ​
The insufficient efficiency of supply chain collaboration is also a prominent issue. Some enterprises still suffer from information silos, with insufficient sharing of demand forecasting, inventory management, and other information between upstream and downstream enterprises, resulting in both inventory backlog and supply shortages. In addition, the standardization level of core components is relatively low, and there is a lack of unified specifications for product interfaces and technical parameters among different manufacturers, which increases the adaptation cost of the supply chain and is not conducive to the overall efficiency improvement of the industry.
